The best place to be November 1
Why? To make the start of the dry season and see green and flowery landscapes.
Far from the beaten paths of African mountain is a mountain range without equal, Simen Mountains, composed of several river valleys separated by wide plateaus and peaks over 4000 m, including Ras Dashen (4543 m), the highest of Ethiopia and the fourth highest in Africa. In the north edge of the ridge there is a scarp 60 km long overlooking an area of rock pinnacles and tables that gives some of the best African views.
They are Whichever way you look at them, the Simen are spectacular and offer hard but very rewarding hiking trails. Not only the scenery (and altitude) leave the hiker without words, also the thrill of sitting among a group of geladas or watch magnificent goats Ibex Ethiopian jumping rocks.
All routes begin and end in Debark, in the Amhara region where the park is located. The most popular are those that run along the west side of the massif, including the most spectacular areas of the escarpment. The most amazing surrounding landscape is Geech Abyss, and classical Simen Geech route leaves behind to reach the summit of Ras Dashen; The round trip lasts around eight to 10 days.
