The school goes to school

We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge that the Spanish education system has achieved important goals. We have universal schooling to 16 years, early childhood education has expanded dramatically, and have integrated effectively in a short time a large number of immigrants. However, we do not get out of a mediocre situation in the international arena, we have a dropout rate unbearable progress is required in equity, and have failed to adequately prepare our students for insertion into real life. We need to improve our education system, to increase the intellectual, emotional and executive resources of our students, to train ethically responsible citizens who need democracy, and to facilitate their integration in a work world that increasingly will demand higher skills and willingness to continue always learning.
Teachers are now on we have to improve the school and that will force us to have to learn many things
But change is not limited to the inevitable improvement, but has become structural element of the school. To meet the demands of a rapidly changing society, the school has to do it too. Namely maintaining the essential, but settling a constant change and unpredictable part, will require an extraordinary effort teachers from the beginning we want to underline. The education system will have to take on more responsibilities in today's society of learning, and that forces us to make teaching an elite profession, and change society's beliefs about school. Educational systems can not be limited as to be mere transmitters of what society considers to be transmitted, but they have to create the educational knowledge to prepare our students for an uncertain future. Among the huge amount of information produced daily, rigorously you select those that may be more important to their future, and the most appropriate procedures to facilitate their learning.
But we can not wait to train new generations of teachers imbued with new ideas and renewed enthusiasm we solve problems. We need to fix the plane while in flight. That is, teachers are now on we have to improve the school and that will force us to have to learn many things. The school has to go to school. But as Chris Argyris, an expert in change management, processing all said, although their need is accepted, triggers defense mechanisms. The change produces insecurity and fear. Therefore, before attempting to transform the school, teachers should convince two things: that it is necessary to do so and that they are able to.
I have asked the Minister to submit the White Paper to all pre-primary, primary, secondary and vocational training, to discuss the cloisterscarnival 2016
The White Paper has followed an unusual path. Typically, a government draws up and throw him into society. In our case, I tried to be brewed from school to make it to the Government and that him over to the society for discussion. Many teachers have participated in it, but I think we could still get more involved in the education system. Therefore, I have asked the minister, in collaboration with the Ministries of Education of the CCAA, send the White Paper to all pre-primary, primary, secondary and vocational training so that the cloisters the debate and contributions can be made a Wiki version of the book. An example of co-creation, collective wisdom. Thinking about the education system itself could be a beautiful experience. Very innovative and very effective.
